ATR Announces New Pratt & Whitney Engine Series at Dubai Airshow 2021

ATR Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR announced a new engine series — Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127XT engine – at the recently held Dubai Airshow 2021. ATR claims a 20% reduction in maintenance costs and a 3% reduction in fuel consumption in this new engine. Air Corsica, a flagship carrier of the French insular region Corsica, ordered the new engine series and became its launch customer at Dubai Airshow 2021. “ATR focuses on delivering value proposition to its customers by enhancing the operating economics and sustainability factors using innovation,” a release from ATR said. According to Fabrice Vautier, Senior-Vice President Commercial, ATR, there were signs of recovery of the aviation market at Dubai Airshow 2021. The future aviation trends are leaning more towards sustainable solutions, and ATR intends to explore this demand.

ATR anticipates demands for regional passenger aircraft and turboprop replacements

ATR finds that the homeworking and booming of e-commerce will pace up regional passenger and cargo aircraft demands. There will be a replacement spree of over 900 turboprops in 30-50 seat category airlines as turboprops are significant in reaching the industry’s net-zero carbon emissions target. ATR also noted that the air travellers are seeking more point-to-point connections. ATR has signed for 29 new orders since the beginning of 2021. Greek airline Sky Express has placed six orders for ATR 72-600 aircraft. Air Corsica is another customer that has put new orders for five ATR 72-600 aircraft. There are also orders from the airlines TAROM, Binter Canarias and Afrijet for ATR 72-600 aircraft model. Japan Air Commuter and an undisclosed airline have purchased ATR 42-600 models. The company has delivered 16 aircraft so far in 2021 and expects to almost triple the number of deliveries compared to last year. ATR holds 75% of the turboprop market and 36% of the overall regional market over the last ten years. The turboprop manufacturer celebrated its 40th anniversary this year, with 1,800 aircraft orders and 1,600 deliveries.
